World English Bible The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name, and leads them out.

Le portier est, comme nous l'avons indiqué, ce serviteur armé qui veillait à l'entrée du bercail. Jésus n'ayant point interprété ce trait de la similitude, les exégètes ont voulu suppléer à son silence.

Les uns donc ont vu dans ce portier Dieu, (Jean 6.44) qui ouvre l'entrée de son royaume ; d'autres, le Saint-Esprit, qui y prépare les cœurs ; d'autres, Moïse qui par la loi, fraye les voies à l'évangile ; (Jean 5.46) d'autres, Christ lui-même, d'autres enfin, Jean-Baptiste, le précurseur du Sauveur.

De ces diverses interprétations, la dernière, proposée par M. Godet, est la plus vraisemblable ; (Jean 1.6,7,35 ; Matthieu 21.23, suivants) mais il nous paraît plus naturel de voir seulement dans ce détail l'indication que le vrai berger trouve accès au bercail des brebis.
