Christ a été glorifié par les nombreux miracles qu'Il a opérés, cependant Il mentionne maintenant Sa glorification dans Ses futures souffrances : elle est plus représentative que toutes les gloires qu’Il reçut ici-bas, dans son « corps d'humiliation ».

Le préjudice divin, occasionné par notre péché a été « réparé » par la mort de Christ. Nous ne pouvons pas suivre encore notre Seigneur dans la félicité céleste qu’Il connaît maintenant, mais si nous croyons vraiment en Lui, nous Le suivrons plus tard ; durant notre temps ici-bas, nous devons patienter et effectuer l’œuvre qui nous est impartie.

Avant que Christ ne quitte les disciples, Il leur donna un commandement nouveau : s'aimer les uns les autres au Nom du Seigneur, et selon Son exemple, rechercher le bien de son prochain, promouvoir la cause de l'évangile, formant un seul corps spirituel, tous unis.

Ce commandement peut paraître nouveau pour certains. Généralement, les hommes portent leur attention sur les paroles générales de Christ, en laissant quelque peu de côté celles qui sont mentionnées dans ce texte. Le manque d’amour réciproque parmi les Siens peut nous mettre en droit de suspecter leur sincérité à l’égard du Seigneur.
