Comme la fête durait huit jours et qu'elle était (grec) déjà à son milieu, on voit que Jésus avait laissé s'écouler trois ou quatre jours avant de venir à Jérusalem. (verset 9) Tout à coup il monta au temple, ou la multitude s'assemblait pour les cérémonies du culte, et il se mit à enseigner !

Ce procédé était plein, à la fois, de sagesse et d'une sainte hardiesse. Il eut ainsi le temps de s'emparer de l'attention de son immense auditoire, avant que les chefs eussent pris aucune mesure contre lui, et ils furent eux-mêmes frappés d'étonnement. (verset 15)

Chaque fidèle serviteur du Seigneur adopte humblement Ses paroles. La doctrine qu’il suit ne vient pas de lui-même, mais de la Parole de Dieu, au travers de l'enseignement de l’Esprit.

Au sein des querelles qui troublent ce monde, si quelqu'un, de quelque nation qu'il soit, cherche à faire la volonté du Père, il saura si la doctrine qu’il reçoit est de Dieu ou provient du cœur des hommes. Seuls ceux qui haïssent la vérité, subiront les méfaits des erreurs fatales qu’ils professent.

Spirituellement, il était sûrement aussi positif, d’assister, un jour de sabbat, à la guérison d’un affligé, que de voir exercer un culte rituel. Jésus demanda donc aux Juifs de trancher, quant au bien fondé de Sa conduite dans le temple, conformément à la loi divine.

Nous ne devons juger quiconque selon les apparences extérieures, mais par la valeur, par les dons et par les grâces que l'Esprit de Dieu exerce en cette personne !
