Ce qu'il a fait, c'est-à-dire ses actions et sa conduite. La loi est ici personnifiée, c'est elle qui entend, qui juge, qui connaît, dans la personne du juge qui est l'organe de la loi.

Cet appel à la loi, en présence d'hommes qui viennent de reprocher à la foule de ne pas la connaître, est d'une mordante ironie.
