Cette affirmation n'était pas superflue ; elle était même à ce moment-là l'expression d'une foi héroïque ; car c'était un principe généralement admis que la puissance d'un Dieu se mesurait à la prospérité du peuple qui invoquait son nom. Combien donc les dieux des oppresseurs d'Israël ne devaient-ils pas paraître supérieurs en force à celui du pauvre peuple conduit en captivité !
