Leur lumière, c'est-à-dire les ténèbres (24.17) : les méchants n'opèrent que dans la nuit ; elle est pour eux ce que le jour est pour les justes.

Le bras qui se levait, pour frapper ou accomplir un crime, retombe comme brisé quand parait le jour. Pour comprendre certains termes de ce verset et de plusieurs autres (saisisse, verset 13) de ce chapitre, il faut se rappeler que, dans le midi, le passage de la nuit au jour et du jour à la nuit est beaucoup plus brusque que dans les régions septentrionales.
