Il y a peut-être ici une circonstance dont il faut tenir compte. Dans la délimitation du pays qu'Israël devait posséder (Nombres 34.1-12), la frontière indiquée du côté de l'est était le Jourdain. Or nous avons vu qu'à la demande de deux tribus et demie, après la conquête des royaumes amorrhéens à l'est du fleuve, un immense territoire leur avait été assigné par Moïse, avec la permission de Dieu, et c'est une question de savoir si après cela les neuf tribus et demie restantes auraient été en état d'occuper la totalité du territoire occidental qui leur avait été destiné. Dans tous les cas, cette prise de possession ne pouvait plus se réaliser qu'à la longue et beaucoup plus tard, à la condition que le peuple, marchant dans les voies de Dieu et béni par lui, se fortifiât et se multipliât comme cela serait certainement arrivé dans ce cas.
