World English Bible When the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up against them to war.

Les fils d'Israël l'apprirent. Ils s'imaginent que leurs frères ont porté atteinte à l'unité, du sanctuaire national (Lévitique 17.8 ; Deutéronome 12.4) ou bien même que cet autel doit servir à un culte idolâtre ; et ils appliquent ici la parole Deutéronome 13.13 et suivants. Il semble que les guerriers de l'est du Jourdain auraient dû avertir Josué de leur intention ; mais l'idée d'élever ce monument ne leur vint peut-être qu'au moment de passer le Jourdain et de quitter le sol de, la Terre promise.
