D'après Marc, ce furent quelques-uns (des disciples) qui firent entendre ces murmures. Selon le récit de Jean, ce fut Judas qui, obéissant à une basse cupidité, entraîna ainsi quelques autres disciples, dont le légalisme étroit ne pouvait comprendre cet acte de dévouement et d'amour.
