Judas dit dans sa mauvaise humeur : cela (et non, selon le texte reçu, ce parfum) pouvait être vendu bien cher ; et d'après Marc et Jean, il indique même la somme à laquelle il l'estimait : 300 deniers.

Mais Jean (Jean 12.6) nous révèle aussi le motif de son mécontentement. Il y a toujours dans le monde une certaine vue des choses d'après laquelle tout ce qui n'est pas matériellement utile, qui n'augmente pas le bien-être ou la possession, est une perte.
