Ils ont profané le sacerdoce. Ceci nous rappelle les reproches de Malachie 2.4-9.

Josèphe (Antiquités, XI, 7, 2) raconte qu'un Manassé, frère du grand-prêtre Jaddua, épousa la fille du satrape Samballat, qui aurait été d'origine cuthéenne (2Rois 17.24), nommée Nicaso, qu'il fut exclu du sacerdoce par les principaux des Juifs à cause de ce mariage et éleva sur le mont Garizim un temple, où il organisa un culte avec l'aide de plusieurs sacrificateurs mécontents qui l'avaient suivi dans son exil. Josèphe n'aurait-il pas confondu Jaddua et Jojada, et ne serait-ce pas à la suite de cette erreur qu'il aurait placé sous Darius Codoman un trait qui est probablement celui-là même que raconte notre verset ? S'il en est ainsi, nous avons ici l'origine du culte samaritain.
