Comme l'enfant dans le sein maternel qui, au moment décisif, refuse d'apparaître et périt, ainsi Ephraïm, qui eût pu parvenir à une naissance heureuse sous la protection de Dieu, à la condition de se convertir, refuse d'accomplir cet acte décisif et se condamne ainsi à la mort.

Pas sage : malavisé, préférant la mort à la vie.
