World English Bible Therefore the land will mourn, and everyone who dwells therein will waste away. all living things in her, even the animals of the field and the birds of the sky; yes, the fish of the sea also die.

Le châtiment suivra de près le péché (comparez au chapitre suivant le développement de cette pensée qui n'est ici qu'indiquée) ; la terre elle-même punira ses habitants (comparez les menaces Deutéronome 28.16,17,23,24, etc. ; la sécheresse du temps d'Achab, 1Rois 17.1).

Même les poissons... (Sophonie 1.2-3) La stérilité actuelle de la Palestine atteste que les menaces de Dieu ne sont pas de vains mots.

      Esaïe 24

      4 The earth mourns and fades away. The world languishes and fades away. The lofty people of the earth languish.
      5 The earth also is polluted under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant.
      6 Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and those who dwell therein are found guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.
