8 à 14 Les alliances païennes n'aboutiront qu'à une nouvelle captivité semblable à celle d'Egypte, sans que ni les autels ni les palais auxquels se confie Israël, ni même les forteresses de Juda, puissent l'empêcher.

Israël est dévoré. Le verset précédent, finissait par ces mots : des étrangers la dévoreront ; or, ce jugement a déjà commencé ; le tribut qu'Israël est obligé de payer aux païens consume ses ressources, et il est pour eux un objet de mépris.
