Car ils sont montés... Nous voyons 2Rois 15.19- 20 comment Ménahem, en achetant à prix d'argent l'appui du roi d'Assyrie, ouvrit la porte à toutes les interventions suivantes de ces souverains étrangers (comparez 5.13).

Onagre farouche, proprement : solitaire ; qui recherche le désert. Ephraïm n'a pas voulu vivre comme un âne apprivoisé demeurant sous la discipline de son maître ; il a couru, à travers le désert, à la recherche de l'Assyrie et de l'Egypte (ses amants). Un désert séparait, à la lettre, Canaan de chacun de ces deux pays.
