Voilà le côté positif de la vie chrétienne tendant à la perfection, tandis que le verset précédent n'en indiquait encore que le côté négatif, la préservation du mal.

Une vie remplie de fruit de justice (tel est le vrai texte, et non des fruits selon le texte reçu) rappelle l'image d'un arbre chargé de fruits.

Le mot justice est pris ici dans le sens de justice pratique, intérieure, et non dans celui de justification. Un puissant motif pour le chrétien d'abonder dans le fruit de justice, c'est que ce fruit est par Jésus-Christ, qui le rend acceptable, à la gloire et à la louange de Dieu.
