Il serait tout aussi impossible de ne s'inquiéter d'aucune chose, que de se réjouir toujours, si l'Evangile n'offrait constamment les moyens et les remèdes. (Matthieu 6.25 et suivants)

Aux inquiétudes, Paul oppose la prière, la supplication (prière plus instante), par laquelle l'enfant de Dieu dépose dans le sein de son Père céleste chaque sujet d'inquiétude ou de peine, et lui demande la force de tout supporter.

- Mais pourquoi l'action de grâce, quand on est dans l'affliction et dans la crainte ? Parce que, même en ses mauvais jours, le chrétien a plus de motifs de reconnaissance et de joie pour les grâces qu'il a reçues, que de plainte ou de tristesse pour les épreuves auxquelles il est exposé. Et même s'il lui arrive de ne pouvoir pas prier avec confiance, l'action de grâce, montant vers Dieu du fond d'un cœur vraiment reconnaissant, lui ouvrira les sources de la prière.
