La femme vaillante, vertueuse, attachée à son devoir, honorable et sans tache, est vraiment la couronne de gloire de son mari (1Corinthiens 11.7). Elle se fait respecter de chacun. Voir le développement de cette maxime dans 31.10-31.

L'éhontée. On pourrait aussi traduire : Celle qui fait honte (à son mari).

Comme la carie, maladie subtile, cachée, à la marche régulière, et qui finit par ruiner l'organisme tout entier. Image particulièrement bien choisie pour indiquer l'influence néfaste qu'exerce au sein de sa famille cette femme qui en bannit toute paix, tout ordre, tout bonheur. Elle paralyse l'activité de son mari, mine son autorité et en fait un objet de pitié ou de risée.
