For Yahweh your God, he is God of gods, and Lord of lords, the great God, the mighty, and the awesome, who doesn't respect persons, nor takes reward.

He does execute justice for the fatherless and widow, and loves the foreigner, in giving him food and clothing.

En Israël les lois agraires protégeaient efficacement la propriété foncière, et punissaient sévèrement ceux qui déplaçaient les bornes (Deutéronome 19.14 ; 27.17). L'Eternel était en outre le protecteur attitré des veuves et des orphelins (Exode 22.22). C'est dans ce rôle qu'il apparaît ici, garantissant à la veuve l'intégrité du domaine patrimonial contre les entreprises d'un voisin sans scrupules.
