Proverbes 17.23

Les gens malhonnêtes acceptent les cadeaux offerts pour dévier le cours de la justice.
Une personne malhonnête accepte des cadeaux en cachette pour qu’on n’applique pas les lois.
A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.

En secret, littéralement : hors du sein (16.33), des plis formés par le vêtement et dans lesquels on peut dissimuler le cadeau qu'on s'apprête à glisser à son juge. Celui qui fait de pareils présents sent que sa cause est mauvaise, et celui qui les accepte s'engage par là à rendre une sentence injuste.
