Psaumes 103.6

L’Eternel fait justice, il fait droit à tous les opprimés.
Dieu est réellement bon en toutes choses : Il exerce, en particulier, sa bonté envers Israël. Il s'est révélé personnellement à ce peuple et lui a montré Sa grâce. Par les chemins que les enfants d'Israël ont parcourus, nous pouvons comprendre Ses préceptes, Ses promesses, les buts qu'Il nous donne et les voies que nous devons suivre ; Il a toujours été plein de compassion. Combien sont différents de Dieu ceux qui pratiquent la réprimande à chaque occasion et qui ne savent pas s'arrêter !

Que deviendrions-nous si Dieu se conduisait de la même manière avec nous ? L'Écriture nous dit que la miséricorde divine est inépuisable, et nous avons tous expérimenté cette vérité. Un père a pitié de ses enfants lorsque leurs connaissances sont faibles et il les enseigne ; il éprouve de la pitié lorsqu'ils peinent et il les soutient ; il en est de même lorsqu'ils sont malades et il les réconforte ; quand ils sont tombés, il les aide à se relever ; il leur pardonne lorsqu'ils ont désobéi ; quand ils ont tort, il les remet sur le droit chemin : il en est ainsi avec le Seigneur qui a pitié de ceux qui le craignent. Pourquoi une telle pitié ? Il considère la fragilité de nos corps et la folie de nos âmes, à quel point nous pouvons être petits et pouvons peu supporter ; en toutes choses, Sa compassion se révèle.

6 à 10 La grâce divine déployée envers Israël.

A tous ceux à qui l'on fait tort. La réalité, souvent si triste, semble démentir ce qui vient d'être dit. Mais l'histoire d 'Israël est là pour montrer que pour le peuple de Dieu, il n'y a pas d'oppression qui n'aboutisse à une délivrance. Le psalmiste pense spécialement ici à la sortie d'Egypte (verset 7).

      Deutéronome 24

      14 You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he be of your brothers, or of your foreigners who are in your land within your gates:
      15 in his day you shall give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down on it; for he is poor, and sets his heart on it: lest he cry against you to Yahweh, and it be sin to you.

      23 "I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, and pools of water. I will sweep it with the broom of destruction," says Yahweh of Armies.
      24 Yahweh of Armies has sworn, saying, "Surely, as I have thought, so shall it happen; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:
      25 that I will break the Assyrian in my land, and tread him under foot on my mountains. Then his yoke will leave them, and his burden leave their shoulders.
      26 This is the plan that is determined for the whole earth. This is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.
      27 For Yahweh of Armies has planned, and who can stop it? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?"
      28 This burden was in the year that king Ahaz died.
      29 Don't rejoice, O Philistia, all of you, because the rod that struck you is broken; for out of the serpent's root an adder will emerge, and his fruit will be a fiery flying serpent.
      30 The firstborn of the poor will eat, and the needy will lie down in safety; and I will kill your root with famine, and your remnant will be killed.
      31 Howl, gate! Cry, city! You are melted away, Philistia, all of you; for smoke comes out of the north, and there is no straggler in his ranks.
      32 What will they answer the messengers of the nation? That Yahweh has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people will take refuge.

      Esaïe 58

      6 "Isn't this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?
      7 Isn't it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh?
