Le ciel ? Il appartient à l’Eternel, quant à la terre, il l’a donnée aux hommes.

16 à 18 Que la terre loue le Dieu du ciel !

Cette pensée, qui est la conclusion naturelle du psaume, se rattache étroitement à la dernière parole du verset 15. L'univers, aux yeux du psalmiste, comprend deux parties : les cieux, que l'Eternel remplit de sa gloire, et la terre, demeure de l'homme ; il y a communication de l'un de ces domaines à l'autre : d'une part, le Dieu du ciel a fait la terre et l'a donnée aux fils des hommes ; d'autre part, la louange de l'homme peut et doit monter vers Dieu.

Les cieux sont à l'Eternel, littéralement : Les cieux sont les cieux pour l'Eternel.
