Une vigne..., des plants d'oliviers. De tous les arbres, ceux qui occupent la place d'honneur dans le symbolisme des Hébreux, ce sont sans contredit la vigne et l'olivier, qui faisaient, avec le figuier, la gloire et la richesse du sol de la Palestine. Comme, d'après la loi, l'huile et le vin devaient accompagner la plus grande partie des offrandes faites à l'Eternel, les arbres qui les produisent étaient, en quelque sorte, considérés comme sacrés et, par conséquent, employés souvent pour représenter le peuple saint (Bovet).
