Je revêtirai ses ennemis... C'est ici la contrepartie du verset 16. Il nous semble bien évident que celui en faveur duquel l'Eternel promet ces choses est le Messie, qui vient d'être désigné comme une corne et un flambeau promis à David.

Le nom de diadème, hébreu : nézer, est appliqué quelquefois (2Samuel 1.10 ; 2Rois 11.12) à la couronne royale, appelée communément atara ; il en est le nom religieux. Un naziréen était un homme consacré à Dieu... Le diadème, dit M. Reuss, était la marque distinctive du chef spirituel, représentant le pouvoir théocratique, avant d'être celui de la royauté.... Un saint diadème est placé sur la tiare d'Aaron (Exode 29.6). Le mot est donc ici fort bien choisi, si le roi qui doit porter ce diadème doit être le chef unique de la théocratie israélite (Bovet).

Le mot fleurira fait peut-être allusion au fait que le diadème du souverain sacpificateur, la lame d'or sur laquelle étaient gravés les mots : Sainteté à l'Eternel, portait en hébreu le nom de tsit (fleur).
