Pharaon lui-même n'est pas mentionné, dans le récit de Exode 14.23 comme avant été noyé avec son armée, et il semble ne l'avoir pas été, puisque l'on a retrouvé son tombeau en Egypte (le tombeau de Ménephtha). Dans un psaume tel que celui-ci, nous n'avons pas de l'histoire, mais de la poésie, dont le propre est de relever l'importance des événements, sans s'astreirdre à une exactitude minutieuse. Moralement, Pharaon trouva dans la mer Rouge le tombeau de sa gloire et de sa puissance.

      Exode 14

      27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it. Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.
      28 The waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all Pharaoh's army that went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them.
