Tsoba. On croit que cette ville était située au nord de Damas, entre l'Euphrate et l'Oronte. Le roi de Tsoba étendait sa domination, à l'époque de David, jusqu'en Mésopotamie (2Samuel 8.3 ; 10.15).

Joab revint... C'est bien sous la direction de Joab qu'était l'armée dans son ensemble ; mais ce fut Abisai, son frère, qui remporta la victoire décisive sur les Edomites.

La vallée du Sel, au sud de la mer Morte.

Douze mille : les textes 2Samuel 8.13 et 1Chroniques 18.12 parlent de dix-huit mille. Peut-être ce dernier chiffre était-il celui de l'armée édomite dans son ensemble ; le chiffre de douze mille indiquerait le nombre de ceux qui périrent. Voir sur toute cette campagne 2Samuel 8.12, note.
