2 à 4 Mon âme a soif de Dieu !

Terre desséchée. Le mot hébreu aïeph, employé ici, désigne, dans le récit 2Samuel 16.14, soit l'épuisement de la troupe de David, soit la localité fort aride où les fugitifs reprirent haleine (voir la note de ce passage). Il se peut qu'il y ait ici allusion à cette halte. La vue de cette contrée desséchée aggrave l'impression de lassitude qui accable les fugitifs. Mais, dans cet épuisement, c'est vers Dieu que se porte le soupir de David ; c'est d'une communication de sa grâce qu'a besoin, non seulement son esprit mais son corps (ma chair).
