World English Bible But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

Or, s'il en est ainsi, pourquoi juges-tu ton frère ? dit l'apôtre au faible, puis se tournant vers le fort : ou toi aussi, de ton côté, pourquoi méprises-tu ton frère ?

Jugement et mépris sont également déraisonnables, car nous comparaîtrons tous devant le tribunal de Dieu.

- Quelques documents ont : tribunal de Christ, conformément à l'idée plus généralement exprimée dans le Nouveau Testament que Christ remplira l'office de juge suprême ; (2Corinthiens 5.10 ; Matthieu 25.31 ; Jean 5.27 et suivants) mais la grande majorité des manuscrits portent de Dieu.

- Ce jugement, qui sera rendu devant le tribunal de Dieu, sera infaillible. C'est le seul jugement équitable, parce que celui qui le prononcera connaîtra toutes les circonstances et les appréciera selon sa justice et sa miséricorde parfaites. La perspective de ce jugement définitif nous interdit de porter sur notre prochain des jugements téméraires (verset 4 ; comparez Matthieu 7.1).

- Dans ce passage comme dans 2Corinthiens 5.10, l'apôtre enseigne que les chrétiens seront tous soumis au jugement dernier. D'après d'autres paroles du Nouveau Testament, il semble que leur privilège soit précisément de "ne pas venir en jugement.." (Jean 3.18 ; 5.24 ; 1Corinthiens 11.31)

Ces déclarations toutefois ne signifient pas que le chrétien n'ait plus rien à faire avec le jugement suprême, mais seulement qu'il peut envisager ce jugement avec la sérénité de celui qui est assuré en Christ de n'être point condamné. Pour lui, le jugement sera l'acte solennel par lequel Dieu reconnaîtra qu'il est parfaitement sauvé en Christ (comparez 5 : 9-11).
