Esaïe 11.10, d'après les Septante.

Le texte hébreu porte : "Il y aura, en ce jour là, un rejeton d'Isaï, s'élevant pour étendard des peuples ; les nations s'enquerront de lui, et son repos sera glorieux."

Les Septante ont remplacé l'image de l'étendard par l'idée que le rejeton de Jessé se lève pour gouverner les nations.

Grec : Il sera le rejeton de Jessé et celui qui se lève pour gouverner La conjonction et a le sens explicatif : c'est-à-dire.

Jessé est l'orthographe grecque d'Isaï, le père de David.
