Etre dans la chair, en son pouvoir exprime une déchéance plus grande que : "être selon la chair." (verset 6) La chair n'est plus seulement la règle de la vie elle la constitue tout entière. A l'inimitié de l'homme charnel contre Dieu, répond la désapprobation le déplaisir de Dieu, conséquence dernière de l'esclavage de la chair.
