Toute foi, toute connaissance de la vĂ©ritĂ© et toute piĂ©tĂ© a pour dernier but cette vie Ă©ternelle, dont l'espĂ©rance fait la force du croyant ici-bas, mĂȘme au milieu des plus pĂ©nibles renoncements. (Colossiens 1.5)

Ce que Dieu a promis, c'est "la vie éternelle." (Le que pourrait aussi se rapporter à "connaissance de la vérité," mais ce rapport est moins naturel.)

Il faut entendre par les temps éternels, les temps les plus anciens, l'histoire de la rédemption commençant avec la promesse faite à Eve ; (GenÚse 3.15) car Paul parle de promesse, et cette expression ne saurait désigner le dessein de Dieu qui a précédé la fondation du monde. (Ephésiens 3.9 ; 2Timothée 1.9)
