24 à 28 Orgueil et idolâtrie favorisés par l'opulence.

Quand on est à dire à son âme : Tu as des biens assurés pour longtemps... on pense aussi pouvoir plus facilement se passer du vrai Dieu. Les heureux ont volontiers des croyances relâchées.

Dans ce texte, Job proteste :

- Il n'a jamais placé son cœur dans les richesses de ce monde. Combien rares sont ceux qui se sont réjouis dans le Seigneur, à cause de leurs grandes richesses ici-bas ! La détermination à rechercher la fortune ne peut que mener l'âme à la ruine, tout en parsemant notre chemin d'épreuves.

- Il n'a jamais été fautif d'idolâtrie. La source de cette idolâtrie se trouve dans le cœur, elle corrompt les hommes et incite Dieu à envoyer Ses jugements contre les nations.

- Il ne s'est jamais réjoui du malheur de ses pires ennemis. Si les autres cherchent à nous nuire, cela ne justifie aucun sentiment de vengeance que nous serions susceptibles d'avoir à leur encontre.

- Il n'a jamais rejeté l'étranger. L'hospitalité est un devoir chrétien, 1Pierre 4:9.
