Cette sentence de mort est suivie d'un premier acte qui la rend sensible aux yeux du peuple : le brisement, de la houlette Faveur, représentant la protection divine.

L'alliance que j'avais faite avec tous les peuples. Le prophète représente comme un contrat que l'Eternel avait conclu avec les nations la défense qu'il leur avait faite de toucher à son peuple, aussi longtemps que celui-ci lui resterait, fidèle (Jérémie 2.3).
