Tous les signes que Samuel avait prédits à Saül, s'accomplirent le jour même ; ce dernier constata que Dieu lui avait donné un autre cœur et une autre disposition d'esprit.

Malgré tout, cette manifestation extérieure de dévotion, et ce changement soudain purent peut-être inciter le futur roi à une certaine prudence ; Saül parmi les prophètes, restait toujours le même ! L'onction qu'il reçut restait toujours pour lui une cérémonie privée. Il laissa à Dieu le soin de continuer Son œuvre, par l'intermédiaire de Samuel : le futur roi voulut rester discret et voir comment allait se dérouler la suite des événements.
