Sur ce contraste plaire aux hommes, plaire à Dieu, voir Galates 1.10, note.

- Plaire à Dieu seul est la conséquence nécessaire de ce double fait : avoir été éprouvé de Dieu, et sentir constamment son cœur éprouvé par ce même Dieu qui en connaît tous les replis.

C'est seulement à des hommes qui remplissent cette double condition que Dieu confie l'Evangile. (Comparer Galates 2.7)

Nos versions ordinaires : "approuvés de Dieu" ou "jugés propres," sont grammaticalement inexactes, mais ne s'éloignent pas beaucoup de la pensée de l'apôtre ; car ce qui a été éprouvé par Dieu et trouvé pur, est aussi approuvé de lui.
