Notre auteur ne mentionne ni l'un ni l'autre de ces faits, car il ne considère pas la défaite des deux ennemis comme un secours véritable pour Achaz. En revanche, il mentionne seul l'oppression d'Achaz par Tiglath-Piléser, qui suivit. Tiglath-Piléser, après avoir vaincu la Syrie et Israël, voulut établir sa suzeraineté aussi sur Juda, et à cet effet il envoya probablement une armée contre Achaz, qui s'engagea aussitôt à payer un tribut ; comparez 2Rois 18.7,14. Ainsi Achaz avait trouvé en Tiglath-Piléser moins un libérateur qu'un oppresseur (voir la troisième note de 2Rois 16.18), et notre auteur a raison de dire que son intervention, achetée si cher par Achaz (verset 21, comparez 2Rois 16.8), ne lui fut d'aucun secours.
