These four were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
אֶת־אַרְבַּ֥עַת אֵ֛לֶּה יֻלְּד֥וּ לְהָרָפָ֖ה בְּגַ֑ת וַיִּפְּל֥וּ בְיַד־דָּוִ֖ד וּבְיַ֥ד עֲבָדָֽיו׃

Par la main de David. Comme aucun des exploits précédents n'a été attribué à David lui-même, ces mots signifient que ces faits eurent lieu sous son règne et sous l'impulsion donnée par lui à la lutte contre les Philistins ; ou bien la victoire sur Goliath serait-elle attribuée ici à un autre que David ? Mais toute l'histoire de David dépend de cet exploit personnel.
