2 Thessaloniciens 1.10

lorsqu’il viendra en ce jour-là pour être honoré et admiré par tous ceux qui lui appartiennent et croient en lui. Vous serez vous-mêmes de leur nombre, car vous avez cru au message que nous vous avons annoncé.
Ceci se passera le jour où le Seigneur viendra. Alors ceux qui lui appartiennent lui rendront gloire, tous ceux qui croient en lui l’admireront. Vous serez parmi eux, parce que vous avez cru au témoignage que nous vous avons donné.

Ce verset, dans l'original, est ainsi construit : "Quand il sera venu pour être glorifié dans ses saints et admiré dans tous ceux qui auront cru (car notre témoignage auprès de vous a été cru) en cette journée là."

Le discours de l'apôtre s'élève par degrés jusqu'au ton solennel de la prophétie et revêt la forme poétique du parallélisme : être glorifié, être admiré, exprime la même idée, comme ses saints et les croyants désignent les mêmes personnes.

Et, de ces hauteurs, la pensée de l'apôtre se reporte sur ses frères de Thessalonique : il leur assure, dans une parenthèse, que ces perspectives de gloire et de bonheur sont aussi pour eux, puisqu'ils ont cru à son témoignage.

En cette journée la gloire de Christ sera manifestée au monde, qui la reconnaîtra dans les saints, auxquels le Sauveur en aura fait part. Jusque-là leur vie est cachée avec Christ en Dieu ; (Colossiens 3.3) alors Christ sera glorifié en eux.

"Quand ce qui manque aux souffrances de Christ sera accompli dans ses élus, il accomplira aussi en eux ce qui manque à sa gloire. C'est en ce jour que l'obscurité de la foi se changera en évidence : jusque-là il faut servir Dieu sur sa Parole." Quesnel.
