World English Bible When Peter had come to himself, he said, "Now I truly know that the Lord has sent out his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from everything the Jewish people were expecting."

Pierre sait maintenant que c'est Dieu qui l'a sauvé de la mort par le moyen d'un ange.

Hérode et le peuple seront déçus dans leur attente.

Il m'a délivré, dit Pierre (grec) de toute l'attente avide du peuple des Juifs.

On pourrait aussi donner à ce mot le sens de crainte, qu'il a dans Luc 21.26, et traduire : Il m'a délivré de toute la crainte que je pouvais avoir du peuple juif, de tout ce que j'avais à craindre de lui. La première interprétation est pourtant plus naturelle.

- Il n'y a pas à expliquer cette délivrance ; un miracle ne s'explique pas. (Comparer Actes 5.19,16.25 et suivants, Actes 27.23)

Mais combien cette intervention de Dieu doit paraître nécessaire aux yeux des croyants, puisqu'il s'agissait d'arracher à la mort le principal des apôtres.

      22 So the commanding officer let the young man go, charging him, "Tell no one that you have revealed these things to me."
      23 He called to himself two of the centurions, and said, "Prepare two hundred soldiers to go as far as Caesarea, with seventy horsemen, and two hundred men armed with spears, at the third hour of the night ."
      24 He asked them to provide animals, that they might set Paul on one, and bring him safely to Felix the governor.
