World English Bible explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ."

Durant trois sabbats, il discuta ; on pourrait aussi traduire : il s'entretint, dialogua avec eux, mais, comme sans doute on lui faisait des objections, les entretiens prenaient le caractère de la discussion.

Tout cela avait lieu d'après les Ecritures, grec depuis les Ecritures en les prenant pour point de départ. On peut aussi joindre ce complément aux participes qui suivent.

Ce qu'il expliquait et exposait en le prouvant par les Ecritures, c'était un grand principe et un grand fait.

Le principe, parfaitement étranger à toutes les notions des Juifs, était qu'il fallait que le Christ, le Messie, souffrit et ressuscitât d'entre les morts.

Les Juifs attendaient un Messie puissant et glorieux, et dès lors ils ne pouvaient admettre sa mort. Paul leur prouvait que cette mort avait dû arriver non seulement parce qu'elle était prédite dans les Ecritures, mais parce qu'elle était indispensable à l'œuvre de la rédemption du monde. (Luc 24.25)

Le fait qu'établissait l'apôtre, c'est que le Messie était apparu dans la personne de ce Jésus qu'il annonçait.

      Actes 17
