12 à 14 Sulammith reste absorbée dans la contemplation de son bien-aimé et déclare que, même en présence du roi, elle n'est remplie que de la pensée de celui qu'elle aime.

En son divan. Cette expression a été entendue très diversement. Sulammith désigne sans doute par là l'appartement même où elle se rencontre en ce moment avec lui.

Mon nard. Le nard était un parfum tiré de la racine d'une plante portant ce nom ; il était renfermé dans de petits flacons d'albâtre qu'on portait sur la poitrine. La douceur de l'amour de son bien-aimé est pour Sulammith comme le parfum le plus précieux.
