Serre ces paroles, etc. Le mot : ces paroles, désigne toute la révélation que l'ange vient de donner à Daniel, 11.2-12.3 ; elle avait déjà été appelée 10.1une parole. Les serrer, c'est enrouler sur elle-même la feuille sur le côté intérieur de laquelle ces paroles sont écrites. Une fois que cette feuille aura été ainsi roulée, il ne restera plus qu'à sceller le rouleau pour que ce qui y est renfermé ne puisse plus être lu. Le sens de cette image : serrer et sceller, ressort du passage Apocalypse 22.10 : Ne scelle pas les paroles de ce livre, car le temps est proche. Ces deux actes ne doivent pas avoir lieu à l'égard du rouleau de l'Apocalypse, parce que l'accomplissement de son contenu ne doit pas tarder et que chacun doit pouvoir en prendre immédiatement connaissance. Mais il en est autrement des prophéties renfermées dans le livre de Daniel, car elles ne doivent se réaliser que longtemps après. C'est pourquoi le rouleau qui les contient doit être mis à l'abri des falsifications qu'on pourrait lui faire subir dans l'intervalle, pour n'être ouvert de nouveau que quand le moment de l'accomplissement sera tout proche. En attendant il restera déposé en mains sûres (comparez Esaïe 8.16) qui n'en rompront sans doute les sceaux que sur l'ordre de Dieu lui-même.
