4 à 14 Confession des péchés ; et cela en commençant par le présent, versets 4 à 10, et en remontant au passé qui a toujours été semblable, versets 11 à 14.

Qui gardes... à ceux qui gardent. Comparez Deutéronome 7.9. Cette idée de réciprocité est exprimée encore Psaumes 18.26-28.

Chaque fois que nous prions, nous devons confesser, non seulement les péchés dont nous avons été coupables, mais aussi la faiblesse de notre foi et notre manque de confiance en Dieu ; nous devons également Lui montrer la tristesse que nous éprouvons, à cause de notre péché, ainsi que nos résolutions pour nous éloigner de ce dernier. Tout cela doit être confessé à Dieu, pour affermir notre vie spirituelle.

Nous voyons dans ce texte, Daniel, cet humble serviteur, pieux et consacré à Dieu ; il rend gloire à son Dieu, un Dieu qu'il faut craindre, et en même temps en qui l'on peut se confier.

Lorsque nous prions, sachons considérer la grandeur de Dieu, Sa bonté, Sa majesté et Sa miséricorde. Nous voyons dans ce texte la confession des pêchés qui furent la cause des épreuves et des gémissements du peuple pendant tant d'années. Tous ceux qui veulent bénéficier de la miséricorde divine doivent confesser leurs péchés. C'est une confirmation supplémentaire de la patience divine, face à la personne qui s'humilie ; cela révèle aussi que Dieu, dans Sa justice, n'hésite pas, malgré Son amour, à infliger des épreuves. Les afflictions sont envoyées pour amener les hommes à se détourner de leurs péchés, pour qu'ils discernent la volonté de Dieu. Ce texte est un fervent appel à la miséricorde divine. Il est réconfortant de voir que Dieu est toujours prêt à pardonner le péché. Il est d'autre part encourageant de se rappeler que la Miséricorde est dans les mains de Dieu, car elle convainc et humilie le pécheur, lui rappelant que tout vient de Lui.

Il y a une multitude de facettes dans l'abondante miséricorde de Dieu, on y trouve non seulement la rémission, mais aussi l'indulgence. Nous trouvons, dans ce chapitre, les reproches que Dieu fait à Son peuple, et le triste état de ruine dans lequel le Temple se trouvait. Le péché est reproché à toute personne, mais particulièrement au peuple de Dieu. L'état de désolation du Temple est reproché à tous les saints. Nous voyons ici une demande fervente faite à Dieu pour rétablir les pauvres Juifs captifs dans leur ancienne situation.

Oh, Seigneur, écoute et agis ! Non pas en paroles seulement, mais en actes précis ; accomplis en nous ce qu'aucun autre ne peut faire ; ne tarde pas ! Tout le peuple appuie cette requête. Que tout cela soit fait dans l'espoir du retour du Seigneur Jésus ! Christ est le Seigneur de tous. Dieu, dans Son amour, manifeste Sa Lumière, quand les pécheurs se repentent, et se tournent vers Lui. À chaque fois que nous prions, nous devons nous rappeler à quel point nous avons un grand Dieu, rempli de Droiture.

Nous devrions prier chaque fois avec humilité et avec ferveur, en croyant sérieusement à l'exaucement de notre demande !
