Cette troisième année, on prélevait, outre la dîme annuelle, la dîme de charité ; c'est pourquoi elle est appelée ici l'année de la dîme ; elle terminait un cycle de trois ans. Au terme de ce cycle, quand l'Israélite aura achevé de prélever les dîmes successives de cette année-là (blé, moût, etc.), il devra examiner devant Dieu si rien n'a manqué à ses offrandes.
