Qui est comme toi ? Le peuple d'Israël est aussi unique en son genre que l'est son Dieu (verset 26).

Te flatter : en raison de la crainte qu'ils ont de toi (Psaumes 18.45).

Sur la bénédiction de Moïse.

La date de la composition de ce morceau est difficile à déterminer. Si le contenu en est attribué à Moïse, notre texte ne lui en attribue pas la rédaction. Le verset 4, où il est parlé de Moïse à la troisième personne, les détails donnés dans les versets 18 et 19 sur le commerce maritime de Zabulon, les richesses qu'il lui procurera et l'influence religieuse exercée par lui sur ses voisins, au verset 23 sur la position de Nephthali près de la mer de Galilée. semblent. supposer la conquête accomplie. D'autre part, le peuple est envisagé comme formant encore un tout parfaitement uni. L'indice du schisme entre les deux royaumes, que l'on a cru trouver dans la bénédiction de Juda, est entièrement illusoire, comme nous l'avons constaté ; la preuve que l'on a trouvée, dans la bénédiction de Benjamin, d'une date postérieure à la construction du temple, est pour le moins incertaine. En échange, le souvenir si vivement exprimé de l'établissement de Gad dans son territoire à l'est du Jourdain et de son empressement à s'associer au reste du peuple pour la conquête de Canaan, et l'éloge donné à la vaillance déployée par Juda dans l'achèvement de la conquête, paraissent placer la composition dans un temps très rapproché de l'établissement du peuple dans la Terre promise. On peut même envisager cette bénédiction comme l'inauguration solennelle de ce grand fait de l'histoire nationale du peuple, et, si elle n'a pas été rédigée par Moïse, elle peut bien être la libre reproduction d'un dernier adieu du législateur à son peuple. C'est ce que nous paraît indiquer le verset 4.
