Ecclésiaste 2.1

אָמַ֤רְתִּֽי אֲנִי֙ בְּלִבִּ֔י לְכָה־נָּ֛א אֲנַסְּכָ֛ה בְשִׂמְחָ֖ה וּרְאֵ֣ה בְט֑וֹב וְהִנֵּ֥ה גַם־ה֖וּא הָֽבֶל׃

La vanité et la déception des fausses joies de ce monde, du plaisir sensuel, de la richesse, et de l'opulence. (Ecclésiaste 2:1-11)
La sagesse humaine est vaine. (Ecclésiaste 2:12-17)
Nous devons vivre en ce monde selon la Volonté de Dieu. (Ecclésiaste 2:18-26)

Salomon constate rapidement que les joies et les plaisirs de ce monde ne sont que vanité. Comment une gaité bruyante, voire exubérante, pourrait-elle rendre un homme réellement heureux ? Les diverses solutions des hommes pour obtenir satisfaction en ce monde, et leur inconstance, ressemblent à de l'agitation due à un accès de fièvre !

S'apercevant également, que le fait de s’adonner au vin n’était que pure folie, Salomon a ensuite goûté aux divertissements coûteux des princes... Quand des personnes au revenu modeste lisent une telle description, elles peuvent être rapidement indignées.

Le remède à toutes ces déceptions consistait pour Salomon à bien les évaluer dans leur ensemble : pour lui, tout n’était que vanité et contrariété ; il devrait en être de même pour nous, face à une telle situation.

Sachons nous satisfaire, par ce que nous accorde le Seigneur, en terme de nourriture, de vêtement... Salomon disposait d’une grande sagesse, d’une facilité de compréhension et d’une bonne capacité de jugement.

Tout plaisir en ce monde, lorsqu'il n’est pas béni, laisse l’homme insatisfait, tel qu’il était au départ. Le bonheur ne provient pas de la situation dans laquelle nous sommes : il ne provient que par Jésus-Christ ; Il est le seul qui puisse nous faire parvenir à la béatitude spirituelle !
