Ephésiens 4.15

Double contraste avec le verset précédent : suivre la vérité (ou être vrai), est opposé à la tromperie des hommes, à leur ruse, et croître de toutes manières, ou "en toutes choses," est opposé à être et rester des enfants.

- La vérité et la charité sont les deux éléments constitutifs de la vie chrétienne ; l'une sans l'autre est nécessairement fausse ; réunies, elles développent l'accroissement VERS lui, qui est le Chef, Jésus-Christ.

Telles sont les expressions de l'original, qui rappellent le but proposé à Ephésiens 4.13. (Voir la note.)

- D'autres traduisent : "afin que, disant ou professant la vérité, nous croissions dans la charité, de toutes manières, vers lui..." La version ordinaire nous paraît préférable. Le verbe grec, composé du mot même de vérité, ne la suppose pas seulement en paroles, mais en actions.
