Le précepte : "Parler selon la vérité chacun avec son prochain," est emprunté à Zacharie 8.16.

- Cette exhortation à la pratique de la vérité dans les discours se fonde sur ce que l'apôtre vient d'enseigner (Ephésiens 4.20-24) relativement à la régénération "par la vérité qui est en Jésus," (comparez Colossiens 3.10) aussi bien que sur la sainte union qui existe entre les fidèles, membres les uns des autres. (Comparer Ephésiens 4.16)

C'est ainsi que chaque point spécial de la morale chrétienne, chaque devoir, a ses motifs et ses racines dans les profondeurs mêmes de la doctrine dont il est inséparable.

Notons dans ce texte les détails qui doivent orner notre vie chrétienne : - Veiller à fuir tout ce qui est contraire à la vérité. - Éviter la tendance qui consiste à flatter ou à tromper les autres.

Les enfants de Dieu ne trichent pas, ils n'osent même pas mentir, d’ailleurs, ils détestent le mensonge. Prenons garde à ne pas céder ni à la colère, ni aux passions de ce monde. Si éventuellement nous devons exprimer notre désaccord, voire blâmer notre prochain, veillons à ce que ce soit fait avec douceur.

Quand les premières manifestations du péché nous laissent insensibles, nous donnons alors le champ libre au diable ; quand nous succombons à la tentation, de manière répétitive, nous consentons à accepter ouvertement le péché...

Ces réflexions nous montrent que « céder au péché » est similaire à laisser entrer le diable en nous : nous devons alors résister et nous garder de toute pratique du mal.

L'oisiveté fait le voleur : ceux qui ne travaillent pas, s'exposent à la tentation de voler. Les hommes doivent travailler, afin de pouvoir pratiquer le bien, et d’être gardés de la tentation. Ils doivent travailler, non seulement pour pouvoir vivre, mais également dans le but d’aider les autres.

Que devons-nous penser de ceux qui, soi-disant chrétiens, s’enrichissent par la fraude, l'oppression, et les pratiques douteuses ! Les aumônes, pour être acceptées de Dieu, ne doivent pas provenir de la perversité ni du vol, mais de l'honnêteté et du travail.

Dieu déteste que les holocaustes qui Lui sont offerts, soient le produit du vol...
