Esaïe 10.16

לָ֠כֵן יְשַׁלַּ֨ח הָאָד֜וֹן יְהוָ֧ה צְבָא֛וֹת בְּמִשְׁמַנָּ֖יו רָז֑וֹן וְתַ֧חַת כְּבֹד֛וֹ יֵקַ֥ד יְקֹ֖ד כִּיק֥וֹד אֵֽשׁ׃
C’est pourquoi le Maître suprême, le Seigneur de l’univers, fera perdre leur graisse aux riches régions de l’Assyrie. Sous leur splendeur apparente, le feu se propagera comme un incendie.

Deux images pour décrire le châtiment de l'Assyrie : d'abord celle d'un corps robuste, atteint par la consomption (comparez 17.4) ; puis celle d'un feu qui dévore en quelques heures une magnifique forêt (9.17). La seconde image complète la première, en marquant la soudaineté de la ruine (verset 17) ; toutes deux se mêlent dans les versets suivants.

Les hommes forts : littéralement hommes gras, les guerriers assyriens.
