Qui dissipe les présages des menteurs, et rends insensés les devins ; qui fais retourner les sages en arrière, et change leur science en folie ;

Les païens ont aussi leurs prophètes ; mais Dieu met à néant leurs prédictions en ne permettant pas qu'elles s'accomplissent ; c'est ainsi qu'il confond, en face de Joseph, de Moïse, d'Elie, les sages de l'Egypte et les prêtres de Baal. Il s'agit ici des sages de Babylone, qui ne prédisent à cette ville que du bien, au moment même où elle va tomber au pouvoir de Cyrus. Comparez 47.10-13 ; Daniel 5.7.

      17 So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.
